Java is established as an object-oriented and platform-independent programming language. Software programmed in Java is independent of the operating platform and is outstandingly suited for web-based applications if an application server such as Tomcat is used. Use with all common databases, particularly with natural SQL, is a given.

There are large numbers of APIs and libraries for practically any purpose. There are reference implementations and standards (JSRs) for document management and much more that is required in business.
